A soap making hobby, blended with love for the environment, inspired Aubrey Miller of Canton, Ohio, to launch a new company, Redbudsuds, in 2014. Aubrey describes her company as “thoughtfully clean,” with multi-use shower bars for eco-minded adventurers as its flagship product. nüCamp RV owners might recognize the brand from the Welcome Box included with each camper. The shower bars have been included in the kits for the past two years.
Aubrey has made it her mission to connect people with the outdoors and to each other. Before becoming a full-time soap maker, she and her husband spent two years travelling the country in a van. They worked as guides, ran a wilderness retreat center, and immersed themselves in the outdoors.
“Our travels reconnected us to the outdoors and opened our eyes to an interdependence with the earth and to each other,” she said. “It inspired me to share my passions with others and advocate for sustainability.”
Thoughtfully Clean
Redbudsuds crafts multipurpose shower bars made with all-natural ingredients. They can be used as shampoo, conditioner, body soap and shaving cream, reducing the need to pack multiple products. Each bar is packaged in a shoofah, a loofah bag that transforms each bar into a soap-on-a-rope. The bag provides great lather and easy, waste-free storage.
“I wanted very unique packaging that would share my message, get people excited and engage in an eco-friendly way,” she said.
Redbudsuds shower bars require substantially less water during manufacturing than traditional liquid shampoos and body washes, making the bars “thoughtfully clean.” They are free of preservatives, parabens, phthalates and plastic packaging.
“Doing something as simple as a choosing multipurpose bar is a small but significant choice,” said Aubrey. “That one choice reduces waste. It may seem small, but small drops make an ocean.”
