If you were to ask TAB 320 owner Scott Houseman why he loves owning a nuCamp RV, he could sum it up in one word: friendship.
You might be wondering — what does friendship have to do with RVing? For nuCamp owners, it’s everything. The nuCamp community is built on genuine connections and shared adventures, where a common love for these campers has sparked lifelong friendships.

“In a word, the benefit of the rallies has been friendship,” Scott shared. “These campers, in my humble opinion, kind of self-select for fun, interesting, adventurous people.”
Scott was named the uCamp25 Ambassador of the Year, an honor presented each year during the annual uCamp rally to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a part of the nuCamp community. Scott stood out for his active involvement both online and offline — answering questions and engaging with fellow RV owners in Facebook groups, as well as attending and supporting rallies and events. He even took his commitment a step further by hosting his first gathering at Brown County State Park in Indiana earlier this year.
“Being named uCamp25 Ambassador of the Year was a huge and very unexpected honor for me,” Scott shared. “I’m still amazed. I ultimately just enjoy hanging out with the awesome TAB Tribe, but to be recognized by my friends and peers was a fantastic bonus.”
‘A Happier Camper’
Scott’s journey with nuCamp began in April 2021 when he bought his TAB 320. He initially saw an ad for another teardrop trailer manufacturer, which sparked his interest in small campers. That teardrop was similar to the TAG, featuring a bed inside with no standing room. His wife, however, made sure to add one must-have to the list: a bathroom.

When Scott saw the TAB in person, he was immediately drawn to its design.
“When I looked at the TAB, I kind of fell in love,” Scott shared. “It just struck me as a much better-built, happier camper than most of the other ones I saw out there. … The TAB just seemed like a major cut above.”
When asked what he meant by a “happier” camper, Scott explained the TAB has a bright, inviting atmosphere with lots of windows for natural light and lighter cabinetry. Other teardrops had darker interiors that struck him as dreary. The TAB checked all the boxes and just seemed to be “a lot better fit than anything else.”
Having a small camper allows Scott to hitch up and go with little preparation, which was especially important before his retirement.

“I guess the thing that appeals to me most about camping is the fact that I can go wherever I want, whenever I want,” Scott shared, adding that purchasing a vacation home where he’d be locked into a singular location didn’t appeal to him. “There are just so many cool places to get to in this world, and having this little camper makes it so much easier to do that. It’s really worked out well.”
‘A Great Experience’
Since purchasing his TAB, Scott said he hasn’t encountered any issues. The camper was well built and has held up through countless adventures and miles. Outside of routine maintenance, he hasn’t needed any major repairs.
“In a word, my experience with nuCamp has been great,” Scott shared. “… The quality of the camper has been really excellent. I’ve had zero issues with it.”
When it comes to a nuCamp teardrop, Scott said you can’t go wrong, but he encourages potential buyers to do their research to find the right fit — whether that’s a travel trailer, truck camper, or teardrop.
“If you do your research, and you come down to this category of camper, I would highly recommend one of these,” Scott said.
Scott has even considered upgrading to a TAB 360 in the future, saying it’s more a matter of when than if. Now that he’s so involved with the nuCamp community, he can’t imagine owning anything else.
“I mean, these are my people. This is my tribe now,” he declared. “It’s just part of the deal. It’s been a lot of fun.”

‘A Backstage Pass’
It didn’t take long for Scott to dive headfirst into the nuCamp community. Just a few months after purchasing his TAB, he attended his first uCamp in 2021. He described uCamp as an “absolute home run” and said it feels “like getting a backstage pass at a rock concert” when you’re a new owner. The opportunity to connect with nuCamp representatives, attend technical talks, and learn from experienced owners made the event especially memorable.
In May, Scott hosted his own informal gathering at Brown County State Park, bringing together an impressive 65 trailers. He was inspired to create an event in Indiana for two main reasons: to showcase his home state and prove that Indiana “isn’t just cornfields,” and to host a gathering near his friend and fellow TAB owner Verna Schultz, who is well known among nuCamp owners and team members alike.
Brown County State Park proved to be the perfect setting—with its wide-open spaces, welcoming atmosphere, and stunning scenery. Known as the “Little Smokies,” the park’s nickname pays homage to its rolling hills and lush forests.

“I think it really lives up to that nickname,” Scott commented. “It really is gorgeous. The campsites are spacious and nicely wooded, and there are numerous hiking and biking trails, with small lakes for kayaking.”
Just a short drive away, Nashville, Indiana, offers charming small-town vibes with boutique shops, cozy restaurants, and local breweries. Columbus, Indiana, is also nearby, drawing visitors with its remarkable architecture.
While the Brown County Gathering was largely informal, that relaxed spirit is what made it so special. Each evening, nuCamp ambassadors Mandy Lea and Kendrick Callaway — who host multiple nuCamp rallies — set up their projector for outdoor movie nights, while camper Tricia Dawson serenaded the group with her bagpipes. One evening, everyone came together for a potluck featuring classic smashburgers hot off the grill.
The event was a resounding success, and Scott plans to make the Brown County Gathering an annual tradition, with the next one scheduled for May 11–15, 2026. While registration isn’t open yet, all nuCamp owners are welcome to attend. Campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance by contacting Brown County State Park directly.
‘Exceeded My Expectations’
Scott also reflected on how RVing offers something that’s increasingly rare in the digital age.
With the rise of smartphones and social media, many people “spend half our lives glued to screens anymore,” Scott said. “With one of these, you’re having conversations with real people and sitting around a campfire or even in a camper. You just have fantastic conversations that you just wouldn’t have any other way.”

Since then, Scott has attended uCamp each year. He’s also a frequent camper at Ohio and Pennsylvania TAB and Friends gatherings and nuCamp Rallies with Mandy and Kendrick. He’s also easy to spot thanks to his fluffy Samoyed companion, Nixie. In fact, most people know him simply as “Nixie’s Dad.”
The nuCamp community, Scott said, has far exceeded his expectations. What started as a way to learn more about his camper has grown into a lifestyle filled with annual trips and lifelong friendships.
“Truthfully, that part of it has really exceeded my expectations,” he emphasized. “It’s just a great way to strike up friendships with people you probably wouldn’t meet any other way.”
